Every minute you are around someone else and interacting with another person, you are forming a relationship. You can always work at improving the relationships that you already have and growing closer to the ones you care about. In this critical time, though, the most important preteen relationship is always with parents. It is up to the parents to provide for them the foundations of a good relationship. Whether your preteen has many or just a few close relationships with other preteens, it is essential that they have some. It is up to those parents again to provide them with opportunities to have these preteen friendships. Trust, angry, hurt feelings, as well as happiness, pride, and acknowledgement are founded in preteen friendship relationships.

Teachers and other adults often have good relationships with preteens. Those that have these types of relationship end up being mentors and guides to go to when your preteen gets lost. Relationships like these propel future relationships as well. You can fill them in. As you see, though, these preteen relationships are guides and stepping stones into future relationships your preteen will have.

These relationships are learning blocks. In this critical time, though, the most important preteen relationship is always with parents. It is up to the parents to provide for them the foundations of a good relationship.
