For Guaranteed Success In Self Improvement, Have Faith In ...

How about taking a few minutes of your time in order to learn simple steps on improving the rest of your life? If you pay attention to what we have to say, that is what this article can do for you. Read the tips and tricks that we have provided for you, so that you can start to reach your true potential.

Since nobody?s perfect, you?re going to fall off your diet plan sometimes and eat junk food instead of a healthy meal. Try to do better next time, and don?t worry about that cheesecake you had last night. Today is a new day.

Avoid working or exercising too hard, as these could exhaust you to the point that you fail to achieve your goals. While it is admirable to exert your best effort, do not push yourself past your limit. Taking care of your physical abilities is more important than achieving a goal. Short-changing your body in order to meet personal development goals is a terribly counter-productive form of self-improvement.

TIP! Part of setting goals to better yourself is having an idea of where you want your life to go. Choosing long-term goals will help you to gain the right perspective for finding success in life.

Try to make each day more excellent than the previous one. Try to improve yourself constantly. Each day, make sure that you perform better than you ever have before.

Let your personal principles guide your self improvement. Most people have a system of beliefs and principles they subscribe to. When your system is woven together with integrity, your confidence will rise when you put it into action. This will also promote consistency in your life and actions, which is a trait almost everyone finds admirable.

Several people have difficulty meeting someone worthwhile to date. You should consider using the Internet. Two out of every five couples meet on the Internet these days. Who knows? Maybe you can put the web to work for you to find your soul mate. Of course, both websites have their disadvantages, but they are worth a try.

TIP! Avoiding a decision means missing out on an opportunity when engaging in personal development. Even if your knowledge is not what it could be, have the courage to make choices.

Be more productive at work by getting the most out of your time there. One trick to doing this, is to take more breaks. Taking breaks is not a waste of time. It will help you stay relaxed and focused on what you need to accomplish.

Make others feel good by offering them compliments. When you focus on the good in others, you will find that they return the favor.

Avoid going shopping as a form of entertainment or comfort. Spend your time on more productive and useful pursuits. Clean the house, play an instrument or take up a sport. This will reduce stress, save you money and turn you into a more interesting, well-rounded person.

TIP! Life is unpredictable and taking a few calculated risks is necessary. Most people don?t want to risk feelings of rejection or failure, so they never travel from their comfort zone, eventually causing dissatisfaction.

Reduce the stress in your life. Avoid over-reacting when something doesn?t turn out the way you want, because it can cause you stress. Accept whatever has happened instead of adopting a ?woe is me? stance and focus instead on how to overcome the hurdle. Defeatism is never going to help anything.

Therapy is indicated if you feel you cannot deal with your problems. Self-help books can be useful for many small problems, but they won?t help you tackle the bigger issues which could be haunting you. There are many times when talking with another person about a stressful situation is the most effective route to relaxation. Reading a book won?t let you have a dialog the way therapists do.

If you notice yourself struggling with the blues, try increasing the amount of complex carbs in your diet. Adding complex carbohydrates can help keep your body?s serotonin level up. This can also be achieved by upping your intake of raw fruits and veggies, legumes and whole grains.

TIP! Failing at accomplishing something that was important for you can be hard for your ego. The truth about failure is that it is a learning experience in disguise.

When you overreact, you waste your energy and subject yourself to unnecessary anxiety. Stay calm and carefully analyze every situation. If a mistake is the issue, there are ways to correct it or cope with living with your mistake. Be thankful for what you have and not for what you?ve lost.

Do you find yourself consuming alcohol far too often? Is smoking or anything else harming your body? Our bodies are important to maintain, and should be treated with care. Sometimes, eliminating bad habits is what it takes to make your life better. Carefully examine your attitudes and actions and identify areas for improvement.

Getting and staying healthy is one of the most important parts of personal development. If you want to build healthy habits, you need to be motivated to eat better and exercise more. When you are healthy, you feel your best and therefore can be more effective in all the other areas of your life.

TIP! Fuel your faith with love. Faith and love are intertwined.

Knowing that you deserve only the best is incredibly important in self improvement. You should understand that you owe yourself your best effort. Ultimately, you can be confident that you worked as hard as possible to achieve your goals.

Your willpower can help you find more positive things in your life. Your attitude towards others will affect what happens to you. Try to only want good things to happen to other people. Negative feelings will be less burdensome and less depressing if you make it a practice to maintain a positive mood.

One of the most important elements of personal development is taking proper care of your health. Being healthy correlates directly to feeling good. When your health is good you think wisely and make good decisions. You also save money on medical expenses. Make better choices, dedicate yourself to it.

TIP! Discover what is standing between you and your goals. This can prove problematic for most folks.

Put in maximum effort to reach your self improvement goals. Let your passions guide you. You may never find yourself the absolute top dog in any one field, but you can still strive to be inspiring to those around you. Do the best you can at what you do, and bask in the pride it will bring you.

Hopefully, the information from these tips helped to inspire you to try new things and become a better person. A measure of diligence in adapting these principles to your own life will pay off in years to come. It may take a real effort to do this, but putting these tips to work will be very worthwhile.

Keep track of your progress and learn to organize yourself. By taking a large goal and breaking it down to more manageable segments, you will see that completing your goals has become easier. You can use off-the-shelf tools like day planners or diaries to monitor your personal development progress.

TIP! Read about how your heroes became successful. You can avoid a lot of trial and error by learning what other successful people have done in your situation.

Turkish agency blamed by U.S. companies for intercepted Web pages

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - An agency of the Turkish government deployed a deceptive version of some Google Inc web pages, possibly to monitor activity by its employees, major Internet companies said on Thursday.

The reports are the latest in a series of incidents in which hackers or governments have taken advantage of the loose rules surrounding the standard security for financial and other sensitive sites, those with Web addresses starting with Https.

In the most recent case, an Ankara public transit agency known as EGO, obtained the capacity to validate such Web pages from a Turkish Internet authority called TurkTrust, which is among the hundreds of entities treated as reliable by all major Internet browsers, Microsoft Corp said in a blog post.

Last month, EGO issued an improper certificate that told some visitors to Google they had reached it securely when they had not, Google said. The ruse was detected because unlike other browsers, Google's Chrome warns users and the company if an unexpected certificate is authenticating a Google site.

Google asked TurkTrust, which said it had "mistakenly" granted the right to authenticate any site to two organizations in August 2011. Google also warned browser makers including Microsoft and Mozilla, makers of Internet Explorer and Firefox, and all three will now block sites that were authenticated by EGO and another TurkTrust customer.

Though only Google was demonstrably faked, giving EGO access to Gmail and search activity, many other pages could have been faked without any of the real companies knowing about it. Spokesmen for the Turkish Embassy in Washington and the consulates in New York and Los Angeles could not be reached for comment.

Few details were provided by the technology companies, but one person involved with the issue said that it appeared that the fake Google.com had been displayed on one internal network.

"The logical theory is that the transportation agency was using it to spy on its own employees," said Chris Soghoian, a former Federal Trade Commission technology expert now working for the American Civil Liberties Union.

Validation authority alone isn't enough to intercept traffic, the most likely goal of the project. The authenticator would also have to come in contact with the Web user.

A similar situation developed in 2011, when Dutch certificate authority DigiNotar said it had been hacked and that certificates had been stolen. Google later warned that a fake certificate for its site was showing up in Iran, and it warned Gmail users in that country to change their passwords.

Soghoian and other technologists have complained for years that the system behind Https sites is broken, but the industry has been slow to change.

Among other issues, the certificate authorities can resell the right to authenticate and don't have to disclose who their customers are.

"The entire Web relies on every single certificate authority being honest and secure," Soghoian said. "It's a ticking time bomb."

Giffords plans to attend a private event at a local home on Friday, Steven Jensen, spokesman for Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, said in an email. The event will have no media access and Giffords' plans are still developing and may change.

Giffords retired from?Congress?last year to focus on her recovery from the January 2011 shooting in?Tucson?that left six dead and 12 others wounded.

Giffords, shot in the head in the attack, has become a symbol for proponents of stricter gun control in the national debate about the right to bear arms, which has grown louder since the Dec. 14 attack in?Newtown.

Giffords' planned visit would be three weeks to the day since 20-year-old?Adam Lanza?burst into Sandy Hook Elementary School in rural?Newtown, about 70 miles northeast of New York City, and killed 20 first graders and six school staff members.

Before the attack, Lanza killed his mother,?Nancy Lanza, in their home about 5 miles from the school. Lanza took his own life as police arrived at the Sandy Hook school.

On Thursday, the more than 400 children who escaped without physical harm returned to school for the first time since the assault.

New positioning technology could compete with GPS

A ground-based system that uses much stronger signals than GPS can pinpoint your location in cities and indoors

GOT a smartphone or satnav but still can't get a fix on where you are? A new positioning system could compete with GPS to make sure you never lose your bearings again.

Instead of satellites, Locata uses ground-based equipment to project a radio signal over a localised area that is a million times stronger on arrival than GPS. It can work indoors as well as out, and the makers claim the receivers can be shrunk to fit inside a regular cellphone. Even the US military, which invented GPS technology, signed a contract last month agreeing to a large-scale test of Locata at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.

"This is one of the most important technology developments for the future of the positioning industry," says Nunzio Gambale, CEO and co-founder of the firm Locata, based in Griffith, Australia.

Indoor positioning is the next big thing in location-tracking technology, and companies from Google to Nokia have jumped at the chance to prevent users getting lost in cavernous shopping malls, or in the concrete canyons of big cities, where GPS struggles to keep up. But their technologies typically have a short range, and location resolutions in the order of a few metres.

By contrast, Christopher Morin of the US Air Force tested Locata's accuracy recently at White Sands, and it worked to within 18 centimetres along any axis. Morin says it should be possible to get the resolution down to 5 centimetres.

Admittedly, the tests were performed in an open desert where GPS also works beautifully. But GPS signals are weak - like a car headlight from 20,000 kilometres away - and easily blocked by solid objects. Locata's signal is far stronger, though not guaranteed to work in a complex urban environment, says David Last, consultant to the UK's General Lighthouse Authorities. "In urban areas, there are multiple blockages; propagation is principally via multi-path reflections." Such reflections can confuse receivers and reduce precision.

Gambale says the company is working on the urban angle in Australia with its Sydney Satellites project - a series of tests evaluating whether Locata can provide precise positioning for police, other emergency services and courier firms as they navigate the city's streets.

Ultimately, Locata may work alongside GPS, rather than replace it. The Jigsaw Positioning System, built by the firm Leica Geosystems, uses Locata and GPS signals. The briefcase-sized devices are already increasing coverage and guiding placement of drill rigs at the Boddington gold mine in Western Australia, operated by mining firm Newmont.

Gambale says that units small and cheap enough for smartphones should be available within five years - a similar path to the one GPS took on its way towards world domination.

Locata's technology will face competition in the race to transform indoor navigation. But it could shine in specific areas, Gambale says. Robots with Locata could easily navigate inside buildings without the complex optical systems they need at the moment. And apps that harness pinpoint location data could not only guide you around a mall, railway station or airport, but take you to the exact shelf in a shop for the product you want, he says.

Analysis: GOP starts new Congress bruised, divided

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - In the wake of bruising fights in their own ranks over the "fiscal cliff" and aid for victims of superstorm Sandy - Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives open a new Congress on Thursday more divided than ever.

While their leader, Speaker John Boehner, seems in no danger of losing his position because of the divisions, his ability to speak for his membership in the House appears greatly diminished.

That could not come at a worse time for Republicans as they prepare for their next attempt to get more spending cuts out of President Barack Obama. They will try to use the debt ceiling - and Obama's request to raise it - as leverage, as they did in 2011.

But if the final days of this Congress were indicative of things to come, Republicans will have a rough time effectively using their majority in the House against Obama, who even Republicans acknowledge is at the top of his game following the Democrat's re-election in November.

The fiscal cliff battle to avert steep tax hikes and spending cuts that were due to kick in at the start of this year proved gut-wrenching for Republicans.

Obama's demand for a tax hike on the rich challenged a core principle that has guided Republicans for decades: No new taxes. Ever.

Yet, late on New Year's night, 85 Republicans in the House did just that, voting to raise income taxes on household income of more than $450,000 a year.

Some of the Republican Party's biggest stars were among the 85 - including Boehner and Paul Ryan, the 2012 Republican vice presidential candidate, who is seen as a conservative anchor.

But 151 House Republicans stood in defiance, leaving Boehner in the unenviable position of having to rely on opposition Democrats to pass major legislation.

Earlier in the fiscal cliff fight, Boehner suffered a humiliating defeat when his "Plan B" solution - which would have limited the tax hikes to income of $1 million a year or more, got so little support he had to cancel the vote.

No sooner had the fiscal cliff battle ended than Boehner found himself in trouble with other Republicans over aid for victims of Sandy, the second costliest storm in U.S. history, which smashed New York and New Jersey coastal communities in late October.

Legislation providing disaster relief to New York, New Jersey and other East Coast states was delayed. A House Republican aide said that given Republicans' frustration with the fiscal cliff bill and its lack of significant spending cuts, "it was not a good time to immediately vote on $60 billion in new spending."

"I don't enjoy saying this. I consider myself a personal friend of John Boehner's," said Republican Representative Peter King of New York. "It pains me to say this, but the fact is that the dismissive attitude that was shown ... toward New York, New Jersey and Connecticut typifies, I believe, a strain in the Republican Party."

Earlier, King had condemned House inaction on Sandy as a "knife in the back."

Republican Representative Michael Grimm, also of New York, said of Boehner's refusal to bring the disaster bill to a vote: "There was a betrayal. There was an arrogant judgment that is going to cost I think the trust of the American people."

Ironically, Grimm first won his seat in Congress in 2010 with the help of conservative Tea Party activists who sometimes show displeasure with disaster aid spending.

By midday on Wednesday, Boehner had changed course, promising a House vote by week's end on a $9 billion down payment in storm assistance, with a second bill providing $51 billion to be voted on January 15.

TEA PARTY EFFECT

Paul Light, a New York University professor and a specialist on Congress, said the vote on the fiscal cliff bill could mark the start of a "major realignment" in the run-up to the 2014 congressional elections and the 2016 presidential race.

Republicans who voted for the legislation "are going to have to find a home. They're not going to find it with the Tea Party," Light said.

He said that Republicans who were uncomfortable with the Tea Party could begin aligning themselves more closely with a dwindling band of centrist Democrats.

Congressional Republicans, especially in the House, have been buffeted for two years by the Tea Party, which helped them win control of the House in 2010.

Boehner had to navigate Tea Party demands throughout the 2011 fight over raising U.S. borrowing authority or risking a historic government default.

In rapid succession, Tea Party-fueled battles were waged over infrastructure investments, farm subsidies, payroll tax cuts and the fiscal cliff.

At the core of the disputes was whether the government should be made smaller, forcing Boehner to balance that demand with the need to govern and keep the federal government operating in an orderly way.

For all the heartache over the past several weeks as Republicans fought with one another over whether to let taxes on the rich go up, many see better days ahead.

"By and large, people are probably happy to have it behind them. This was obviously the worst part of the fiscal debate," said one House Republican staffer, referring to the tax hikes.

The staffer added, "Republicans get to point out that we still have a $1 trillion deficit and ask Democrats what kind of spending cuts, entitlement reforms they are willing to do to fix it."

Republicans feel that will be an easier lift for them - one that they can sell to the American public as they move on to the fight over the debt ceiling.

Time Warner Recovers From Al Jazeera Flub

Time Warner Cable may be doing the right thing after all, killing its kneejerk decision to drop Current TV from its line-up as Al Gore?s network is being sold to Qatar?s Al Jazeera.

Last night upon hearing the news of the $500M deal, TWC said it was dumping Current TV from its programming ?as quickly as possible.? It gave Current TV?s low ratings as the excuse for cutting its programming.

That's pure hogwash.

TWC?s high-handed decision triggered outrage in cyber-city as the cable company was hammered as a corporate coward out to muzzle the vibrant English language version of the Arab satellite TV.

Geez, aren?t media companies expected to promote the world of ideas and variety of opinion?

Future Al Jazerra watchers are bound to be exposed to a different way of looking at the world.

Was TWC out to boost its former sister company, CNN?

The flow of Arab cash into the planned new entity called Al Jazerra America based in New York is going to be a headache to CNN and its new programming guru, Jeff Tucker, who is trying to lure former ?Today? show host Ann Curry for a prime-time slot. That same Arab money and some savvy hiring/promotion will dramatically boost the ratings from Current TV levels.

If is sticks with AJA, TWC will have a winner on its hand.

A chastised TWC today is singing a new tune. It released a statement to say: ?We are keeping an open mind, and as the service develops, we will evaluate whether it makes sense, for our customers, to launch the network.?

That?s a smart retreat and good PR.

Pettersson: Golf on 'witch hunt' of long putters

That's how long he has been using a long putter, and the Swede isn't about to change anytime soon. (AP Photo/Gerry Broome, File)

(AP) ? Carl Pettersson says the proposed rule to ban the anchored stroke for long putters feels like a "witch hunt," and that golf's governing bodies were only reacting to three of the last five major champions using a belly putter.

"It seems silly to ban something that's been around for 40 years," Pettersson said in his first comments since the U.S. Golf Association and Royal & Ancient Golf Club announced plans Nov. 28 to outlaw anchored strokes. "It's unfortunate. I feel like I'm 16 years behind because I haven't putted with anything else for 16 years."

Pettersson, who qualified for the Tournament of Champions by winning at Hilton Head, began using a broom-handle putter that he anchors to his chest between his sophomore and junior year at North Carolina State.

Keegan Bradley (PGA Championship), Webb Simpson (U.S. Open) and Ernie Els (British Open) used a belly putter to win their majors.

Two more months of comment period remain before the rule becomes official, and then it does not take effect until the next Rules of Golf is published Jan. 1, 2016.

Even as the long putters were getting more attention, Pettersson made one of the most compelling cases to keep them. It is the only putting stroke he has used during his 10 years on the PGA Tour.

Pettersson long has argued that he has spent thousands of hours practicing the stroke, which did not come naturally to him, and that to start over would put him at an unfair disadvantage. He was said to be among those who might consider a lawsuit if the rule is adopted, though the easygoing Swede said he would see how this year unfolded.

"I don't know," he said when asked if he would challenge the rule. "I haven't made up my mind yet. I'm just going to sit back and see what happens."

In the meantime, he has no plans to change putters.

Simpson said he had been practicing on occasion with a short putter in case of a ban, and Bradley had some fun at the World Challenge last month when he grabbed a short putter on the practice green at Sherwood and made a 20-foot putt.

Both showed up at Kapalua with their belly putters.

"I'm not going to change," Bradley said. "I'm not even thinking about it, to be honest. I'm going to wait for the rule to pass first, and then I'll think about what to do."

Pettersson said he tinkered with a few grips during his month at home in North Carolina, though not to the point that he practiced on a real green. He also said he was not surprised by the decision, saying it became clear in the last few months that the USGA and R&A were leaning toward a ban.

"It feels a bit like a witch hunt to me," Pettersson said. "It was a pure reaction to Keegan and Ernie and Webb. They keep harping on the younger generation using them, but I think they're going to ban it because it looks bad. But you have strong arguments from other players, too."

Tiger Woods, Steve Stricker and Graeme McDowell are on a long list of players who use conventional putters and believe an anchored stroke should go away, saying it takes the skill out of putting because the top part of the club is anchored to the body.

What concerned golf's top officials is that players no longer were using an anchored stroke out of desperation to improve their putting, but as a way to putt better.

"There's no argument that it's a better way to putt because then everybody would be using it," Pettersson said. "If it was easy, everybody on the PGA Tour would be using it. So I don't know where they got that from. It's just a different way of putting."

The PGA Tour can set its own rules, and there has been speculation that when the rule passes, the tour would adopt it before 2016 to avoid the long putters getting too much attention over the next few years.

Bradley said a fan called him a cheater at the World Challenge, which prompted a statement from the USGA that reminded fans the putting stroke remains legal.

A spokesman said PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem would not comment until a players' meeting in two weeks at Torrey Pines. Pettersson won't be at the meeting because he does not plan to play the Farmers Insurance Open.

"There's so much speculation. I just wish people would say what's going on," Bradley said. "From what I've heard, the rule is not going in for three years. I haven't heard what the tour is going to do. I know it's a touchy subjection. I would prefer for it to go three years so we aren't rushed into it. I think that would be the fair way to do it."

Pettersson said he was surprised not to have heard from Finchem, and that his hope was that golf officials weren't talking only to those opposed to long putters. He did say, however, that USGA executive director Mike Davis tried to call him a few weeks ago.

"I didn't know it was him, so it went right to my voicemail," Pettersson said.

Did he call him back?

"No," Pettersson said. "I just didn't want to talk about it. And there's nothing I could do."

Davis said he has tried to call a number of players who use long putters before and after the announcement of the proposed rule.

"I've just reached out and said, 'If you want to talk about it, I'm happy to, but don't feel you need to call back,'" Davis said. "We realize there are two sides ? many sides ? to this issue and we just wanted to reach out. It's not so much to try to convince them of our point of view, it was more listening to theirs."

Davis said with two months remaining in the comment period, "It has gotten extremely quiet."
